Responsibilities
- Deliver coordinated nursing care for obstetric patients and assigned groups according to established standards of care and the nursing process.
- Supervise and direct activities of various levels of nursing staff; coordinate care with physicians, midwives, and other disciplines.
- Monitor laboring patients, perform ongoing assessments, interpret fetal monitoring data, and administer medications and interventions as prescribed.
- Develop and implement care plans; evaluate progress toward outcomes and adjust plans as needed.
- Provide patient and family education; participate in discharge planning to ensure continuity of care.
- Document accurately and communicate across shifts; delegate appropriately and ensure a safe, healing environment.
- Maintain readiness for obstetric emergencies; respond to codes and support neonatal resuscitation and Level II nursery needs as required.
Requirements
- Active RN license to practice in the state of California
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP), and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required
- Experience: at least two years of recent nursing experience in labor and delivery or related obstetric care; labor and postpartum experience preferred; Level II nursery (NICU) experience required
- Education: BSN preferred
- Specialty experience: acute care facility experience preferred
- Ability to work night shifts and 12-hour shifts; capable of working in a Labor & Delivery unit
