Responsibilities
- Provide direct, professional nursing care to adult patients in the Neuro PCU, including assessment, planning, and delivery of evidence-based interventions.
- Monitor neuro status, perform serial neurological checks, administer medications, and manage IV therapy within unit protocols.
- Maintain patient safety and comfort, respond to alarms, and collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to coordinate care transitions.
- Document care in the electronic health record with accuracy; ensure timely communication with physicians and other care providers.
- Support patient and family education regarding diagnoses, treatments, and post-discharge planning; assist with admissions, transfers, and discharges as needed.
- Adapt to unit needs, including floating to either side of the Neuro floor and potentially to sister locations within the system.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of neuro PCU or equivalent neuro-unit experience; neuro experience strongly preferred.
- BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS required.
- Ability to read and interpret EKG rhythms.
- Degree accreditation must be on profile or 5 years of experience required.
- Graduate of an accredited RN program; active licensure to practice as an RN (state-of-practice requirements apply).
- Willingness to float to other neuro floors and potentially to related unit locations as needed.
