Responsibilities
- Circulate in the operating room under direction of the surgical team, maintaining a sterile field and patient safety throughout procedures.
- Anticipate surgeon needs, assist with instrument handling, sponge counts, draping, suction, and specimen labeling; manage equipment and room setup between cases.
- Monitor patient status, coordinate with anesthesia providers, document intraoperative events, and communicate changes to the team.
- Support a variety of surgical specialties as noted: general, OB/GYN, ortho, urology, ophthalmology, pain, simple cardio, and simple vascular.
- Ensure adherence to infection prevention protocols, regulatory requirements, and facility policies; assist with turnover and room readiness for subsequent cases.
- Provide patient advocacy and ensure proper labeling, specimen transport, and equipment counts for each case; participate in post-op handoffs.
Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 3 years of OR circulating experience preferred
- Certifications: ACLS, PALS, and BLS required
- Skills: Strong knowledge of sterile technique, OR safety, and instrumentation; ability to function in a fast-paced surgical environment
- Availability: Able to participate in on-call schedule (as described) and accommodate day shift start times
- Setting: Comfortable working in a short-term acute care surgical environment
