Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to adult neuro and step-down patients in the PCU, including neurological assessments and monitoring with NIHSS as part of patient status tracking.
- Administer medications and treatments per physician orders, monitor for adverse effects, and respond promptly to changes in patient condition.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized care plans for neuro patients, including discharge planning and care coordination.
- Document thoroughly in the electronic medical record (EPIC), ensuring NIHSS and neuro status updates are complete and timely.
- Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatment plans, and post-discharge care; facilitate safe transitions to next levels of care.
- Uphold patient safety and quality standards, including fall risk reduction, infection prevention, and equipment/monitoring care in a high-acuity neuro setting.
Requirements
- Active RN license; Nursys license verification
- Minimum 2 years of experience in the neuro specialty (neuro/PCU or equivalent; strong med/surg with NIHSS welcome)
- NIHSS certification; NIHSS documentation must be included in the CV packet to be considered
- ACLS certification; EPIC experience
- RN neuro, 7A shift (daytime) experience; ability to work in a neuro/step-down PCU environment
- Candidate profile must include work history/resume with no gaps greater than 60 days, Skills Checklist, References, Certification Card, and Nursys license verification
