Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care for high-acuity surgical/trauma patients on a dedicated med-surg unit, with a typical patient load around 5:1.
- Perform continuous assessments, monitor vitals, administer medications and treatments per physician orders, and document in EPIC.
- Collaborate with ED and admitting teams to complete nurse handoffs and ensure smooth transitions of care.
- Coordinate with available Nursing Support Techs, phlebotomists, and a night-shift unit secretary to maintain workflow and patient safety.
- Maintain safety and infection control practices, respond to changes in patient condition, and support patient comfort and family communication.
- Participate in mandatory holiday coverage: travelers must work either Thanksgiving Day or the day after, and either Christmas Eve/Day or New Year’s Eve/Day.
Requirements
- BLS certification required; ACLS preferred.
- EPIC experience required.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a high-acuity surgical/trauma Med Surg environment.
- Ability to perform 12-hour night shifts and to work in a fast-paced, safety-focused setting.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with ED, admitting staff, and the care team; strong documentation and handoff skills.
