Responsibilities
- Organize and facilitate patient care in the operating room, ensuring smooth flow of intraoperative activities.
- Coordinate the overall patient care continuum among the surgeon, anesthesiologist, and room staff.
- Function as a first assistant during surgical incision, excision, and repair of pathology for procedures with granted privileges.
- Participate in preoperative assessment and planning for selected surgical patients in collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Demonstrate subject matter expertise regarding medications, treatment approaches, and patient care standards within the perioperative setting.
- Support intraoperative patient care and OR services as part of the perioperative team, with clarity on scope of practice per privileges.
Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse license in California.
- Credentials or privileges to serve as a First Assistant in the operating room for procedures with granted privileges.
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (or as required by facility policy).
- Ability to work in a hospital operating room environment and participate in preoperative planning and perioperative care.
- Commitment to patient safety and adherence to perioperative standards of care.
