Responsibilities
- Circulate in the operating room during surgical procedures; assist surgeons and anesthesia providers; coordinate flow of equipment, supplies, and staff; maintain sterile technique.
- Prepare patients for surgery, including safe positioning and preoperative assessment; monitor patient status intraoperatively and contribute to perioperative planning.
- Safely handle and dispose of biohazardous materials; manage instruments and supplies; operate routine OR equipment as trained.
- Access facility information systems to retrieve and utilize pertinent patient information for perioperative care; document care and procedure events in the patient record.
- Ensure patient safety and assist with immediate post-procedure care planning and handoffs to the PACU or inpatient units.
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to uphold life safety, infection control, and environment of care standards; participate in postoperative recovery considerations as indicated.
Requirements
- Active RN license in California (state of practice) required.
- Education: Associate Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
- Experience: Minimum one year of recent operating room experience required; 1+ years preferred.
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required.
- Specialization: OR experience in Orthopedics, Neurology, and Trauma settings preferred; CNOR certification preferred.
- Additional: Epic experience required; ability to work a rotating schedule; able to participate in call (at least one night per week and one weekend per schedule).
