Responsibilities
- Provide adult respiratory care in ventilator-heavy, critical care and ED-adjacent settings, with rotation between acute and LTAC environments.
- Manage ventilator-dependent patients and perform therapies such as BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, oxygen therapy, and high-quality airway support; troubleshoot high-pressure alarms and assist with weaning per protocols.
- Perform airway management tasks including suctioning, oral/nasal airway placement, endotracheal/trach suctioning, extubation assistance, and preparation for intubation as directed.
- Conduct ABG sampling, nebulization treatments, pulmonary hygiene, and sputum collection; implement pulmonary hygiene strategies per care plans.
- Maintain accurate EPIC charting and documentation per facility compliance; participate in interdisciplinary rounds with RTs, nurses, physicians, PT, radiology, pharmacy, rapid response, social services, and other teams.
- Monitor and respond to respiratory emergencies, participate in rapid response activities, and support ventilator management and patient assessment across rotating units.
Requirements
- New York state license required (license in hand to submit)
- Certifications: BLS, RRT, ACLS
- Experience: Minimum 1 year RN experience required; previous charge experience preferred
- Patient care experience: 1:20 patient ratio experience
- Charting: EPIC experience required
- Additional preferences: LTAC, community hospital, and Trauma I/II experience preferred
- Floating: Willingness to float between acute and LTAC settings
- Orientation: 36 hours
- Geographic restrictions: No local candidates within 50 miles; candidates within 75 miles not accepted
