Responsibilities
- Assist during surgical procedures by maintaining a sterile field and providing instrumentation to the surgical team as needed.
- Ensure proper packaging, processing, moisture control, seal integrity, and expiration checks on instruments and supplies; monitor the OR environment for patient safety.
- Observe sterile field integrity and initiate corrective actions under supervision when contamination or compromise is detected.
- Develop competency in Tier 1 surgical cases and apply aseptic technique consistent with AORN standards.
- Participate in preoperative communications and intraoperative teamwork, including time-out processes, briefings, and debriefings.
- Support patient transports, room turnovers, and room preparation; assist with instrument cleaning and terminal sterilization as appropriate.
- Maintain professional behavior and currency in new technologies and procedures related to instrumentation and equipment.
- Contribute to a Just Culture by modeling open communication and accountability.
Requirements
- Licensure: Licensed as a Surgical Technologist in the state of Colorado; completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist program (or equivalent).
- Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
- Experience/Education: Completion of a Certified Surgical Technologist program and/or current licensure as a Surgical Technologist.
- Computer skills: Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computer skills necessary to complete online learning requirements, access policies, and complete benefits enrollment.
- Language: Working knowledge of English (reading, writing, speaking).
- HIPAA compliance: Must be HIPAA compliant.
- Physical ability: Capable of performing the duties of a surgical technologist in a fast-paced OR environment, including standing for extended periods and handling sterile instruments.
