Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care for patients undergoing surgical procedures as the OR Circulator; advocate for patient safety and perioperative care
- Prepare the OR with equipment, supplies, and instruments; maintain aseptic technique; coordinate the surgical team
- Manage intraoperative non-sterile tasks: open sterile supplies, handle specimens, document events; coordinate with anesthesia and scrub
- Monitor patient status and vital signs; communicate with anesthesia; ensure stability and comfort
- Document nursing care, medications, implants, and intraoperative events in the electronic health record per policy
- Postoperative transition: assist with transfer to PACU and hand-off; ensure continuity of care
Requirements
- Education: ADN or BSN; BSN preferred
- Licensure: Current, unrestricted RN license in New Mexico; or a valid compact nursing license substituted for NM license
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required or obtained within 6 months; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred or required based on services; CNOR preferred
- Experience: Minimum 1–2 years of Operating Room experience as a Circulator
- Knowledge/Skills: Strong knowledge of perioperative nursing, aseptic technique, and ES/EMR documentation; excellent communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Setting: Ability to work effectively in a rural, resource-limited perioperative environment
