- High-volume emergency department with up to 120 treatment areas and 350–440 patients per day
- May float to Psych ED and Pediatric ED areas as needed
Responsibilities
- Provide direct emergency nursing care for adult and adolescent patients in a high-volume ED
- Conduct initial assessment, continuous monitoring, triage, and timely interventions; interpret telemetry as part of patient care
- Administer medications, start IV access, perform procedures, and coordinate disposition (admit, discharge, or transfer)
- Collaborate with physicians, technicians, and support staff to ensure patient safety and quality care
- Document all care accurately in the electronic health record; maintain appropriate patient ratios (1:4–5 depending on acuity)
- Demonstrate proficiency in telemetry interpretation (identify rhythm abnormalities/heart blocks) and pass the Telemetry Test on Day 1 (85%+)
- Possible float to related ED areas (Psych ED and Pediatric ED for patients aged 15+ if pediatric experience exists)
- Maintain compliance with BLS, ACLS, TNCC, and PALS protocols and hospital/department policies
- EPIC experience is preferred to support efficient documentation and charting
Requirements
- Active RN license (Massachusetts or eligible for licensure in the practice state)
- ED experience: minimum 1.5 years (recent) in Level I/II ED or 2+ years in Level III/IV ED
- Ability to independently read telemetry rhythm strips and identify rhythm blocks; Telemetry Test on Day 1 with 85%+ required
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, TNCC, PALS active/unexpired
- Nursing degree from an accredited program (ASN, BSN, or equivalent)
- Availability to work 12-hour shifts with guaranteed 48 hours per week; must remain through 01/09/2027; schedule includes nights (7:00 PM–7:30 AM) and two weekends per 4-week cycle; acceptable to float to related ED areas as needed
