Travel Registered Nurse PACU Job
Registered Nurse - PACU in Hilo, Hawaii. This traveling, temporary assignment begins on 05/04/2026 for 13 weeks. The role offers a weekly pay range of 1,857 to 1,957 USD and features rotating, variable shifts with no guaranteed hours. The position is in a hospital-based PACU setting, caring for patients recovering from anesthesia across Phase I and Phase II. Onboarding requires arrival the Thursday before the start date to complete health clearance.

Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care for patients in PACU (Phase I and Phase II recovery) after surgery
- Monitor vital signs, body temperature, airway status, incision sites, and overall stability; recognize and respond to early signs of complications
- Administer medications, manage IV therapy, and operate perioperative equipment per protocol
- Utilize equipment and systems as listed by unit practice (e.g., Meditech, PCA pumps, Pyxis, Braun IV pumps, Cryocuff, SCDs, Bair Paws warmers, HP and Phillips monitors)
- Collaborate with anesthesia and surgical teams to optimize patient recovery and readiness for transfer or discharge
- Document care, patient status, and interventions accurately; maintain patient safety, infection control, and comfort throughout recovery
Requirements
- Current, active Hawaii RN license required by start date (candidates not in possession of a Hawaii license must apply upon acceptance of offer)
- BLS and ACLS certifications from the American Heart Association
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a critical care RN (ER or ICU) in a hospital setting; experience may substitute for PACU-specific exposure
- PACU/post-anesthesia recovery experience preferred; strong critical thinking and rapid assessment skills required
- PALS recommended and may be required for specific travel assignments; NIHSS and TNCC are preferred for certain positions
- Ability to work flexible, rotating shifts including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays; on-call 0–3 times per month
