Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care for a wide age range of ED patients, including triage, assessment, and ongoing monitoring using appropriate nursing interventions.
- Perform timely IV access, administer prescribed medications and IV drips, and manage urgent infusions as needed.
- Monitor cardiac rhythm with telemetry, interpret basic findings, and respond to changes in patient status; coordinate with the ED team for rapid interventions.
- Document care in the electronic medical record (Epic) and manage medication dispensing workflows (Pyxis); ensure accurate MAR and proper charting.
- Support ED operations by assisting with EKGs, starting IVs, patient transports, and preparing patients for procedures or transfer to higher levels of care.
- Collaborate with the ED team (charge nurse, physicians, mid-level providers) and participate in telemedicine/telestroke consultations as applicable.
- Maintain patient safety, infection control, and comfort; apply unit protocols including ESI triage, restraints when necessary, and safe patient handling.
- The ED unit supports 24/7 operations with an ED tech and on-call leadership; adapt to rapid tempo and high-acuity conditions.
Requirements
- Active RN license in Vermont (or eligibility per state requirements)
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS or ENPC (or equivalency), NIHSS, TNCC (or proof of class with date); NIHSS required prior to start; NRP preferred
- Minimum 2 years of clinical experience; 2 years in Emergency/ER preferred
- At least 1 prior travel assignment completed
- EPIC experience within the past 2 years (nonnegotiable)
- Ability to work in a high-acuity ED setting, including night shifts and holiday coverage
- Flexibility to work a schedule that includes the stated shifts and rotations
- Ability to participate in required holiday coverage (two of the four major holidays)
