Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care for adults and geriatrics on a 48-bed med-surg unit, maintaining a 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio. Monitor patient status, perform assessments, administer medications, and document care.
- Manage a spectrum of common med-surg diagnoses (examples include sepsis, respiratory failure/COPD, post-operative recovery, AKI/renal failure, trauma, bowel obstruction, pyelonephritis, cardiac conditions, diabetes, GI conditions, AMS/confusion, CIWA/substance withdrawal) and apply appropriate isolation precautions as indicated.
- Perform and support a range of clinical procedures and skills, including IV therapy (start/maintenance), PCA use, blood product administration, heparin and insulin administration, PICC management, central line access/blood draws, chest tube care, wound care, and phlebotomy. Interpret ABGs as needed.
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team (IV team, PT, Respiratory, Phlebotomy, Radiology, Social Work, Pharmacy, Rapid Response, Transport, Interpretation) to coordinate patient care and discharge planning.
- Maintain accurate and timely charting in Epic, participate in rapid response and codes as appropriate, and uphold patient safety, infection control, and quality measures. Floating to other med-surg units may occur if competency is demonstrated.
Requirements
- Active RN license in hand at time of submittal.
- BLS certification required.
- Travel experience required; 2 years of RN experience preferred; Trauma Level II experience preferred.
- Epic charting experience required.
- Education: RN licensure; degree type not specified.
- Geographic restriction: 50-mile radius rule; local candidates not eligible.
- Onboarding and orientation: Onboarding core items/labs must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing; Orientation modules onsite for 24 hours.
- Additional expectations: Float may be required if competency demonstrated; pre-approved time off: 1 per contract; ability to work nights and adapt to a fast-paced med-surg environment.
