Responsibilities
- Circulate in the operating room across multiple service lines, including Orthopedics (total joints, ortho trauma, sports medicine), General Surgery (laparoscopic/open), Urology (litho laser), ENT (pediatric cases), GI procedures, Spine (ACDF, fusions), Ophthalmology (cataracts with microscope), and Podiatry.
- Prepare and maintain OR environment, ensure sterile technique, and support patient safety throughout procedures.
- Assist the circulating nurse with instrumentation management, specimen handling, and room turnover; monitor patient status and respond to intraoperative changes.
- Float to other OR units as needed; work collaboratively with anesthesia, surgical teams, and perioperative staff to optimize patient flow.
- Provide patient and family education as appropriate and document perioperative care and related activities.
- Participate in on-call coverage as the on-site OR RN when required and contribute to overall OR leadership in the absence of clinical leads.
- Adhere to infection prevention protocols, safety standards, and hospital policies; participate in quality improvement and ongoing professional development.

Requirements
- Active RN licensure in New York (NYS RN Licensure)
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, and PALS (through AHA/RQI) required
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of OR experience; circulating nurse experience required
- Specialty exposure: Experience across service lines listed above; ability to adapt to various surgical specialties
- Education: Not specified in job notes; must have completed an approved nursing education program and hold current licensure
- Ability to work in a perioperative setting with cross-training as needed; comfortable with on-call responsibilities and unit-wide float
