Responsibilities
- Plan and provide nursing care for perinatal patients during antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods, including emergency situations and circulating for C-sections
- Supervise and delegate care to ancillary staff within scope of practice; collaborate with the healthcare team to implement a multidisciplinary, goal-oriented care plan
- Assess fetal and maternal status, monitor amniotic fluid, vaginal bleeding, and recognize/ manage abnormalities; respond to perinatal emergencies (e.g., crash C-section, precipitous delivery, shoulder dystocia)
- Manage pain control during labor and support alternative analgesia when appropriate; assist with epidural catheter placement and monitor patient status during and after administration
- Educate patients and families across all stages of perinatal and postpartum care, tailoring information to age, condition, culture, and learning readiness
- Complete accurate, legible documentation of nursing care and patient response; coordinate care with the care team and ensure timely evaluation and communication
Requirements
- Licensure: Current RN license in the state of practice (California) required
- Education: Associate Degree in Nursing (A.S.) or equivalent required; Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of recent Labor & Delivery experience required
- Certifications: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification; Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification; Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Course; AHA-ACLS or ARC-ALS; AHA-NRP or ARC-NALS; AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring
- Specialty credentials: Perinatal/OB nursing competency;strong EPIC electronic medical record experience required
- Other: Ability to work in a high-acuity perinatal setting; flexibility to cover day and night shifts during transition; ability to respond effectively in obstetric emergencies
