- Schedule note: Every other weekend required to meet unit and patient care needs
Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care for adult patients on a Med Surg Tele/neurosurgical unit, including post-operative and telemetry patients
- Perform comprehensive assessments and frequent neuro checks, including NIHSS as ordered
- Monitor telemetry, vital signs, intake and output, labs, IV therapy, wound care, and administer medications per the plan of care
- Document in the electronic medical record (Epic) and collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to update plans of care and support discharge planning
- Respond promptly to changes in patient condition, implement safety protocols, and escalate as needed; maintain infection prevention and patient safety standards
- Support unit operations and patient flow while adhering to nursing standards and evidence-based pathways
Requirements
- Active RN license on file at time of submission
- Minimum 2 years of unit experience (Med/Surg Tele or Neurosurgical/Surgical care); prior travel experience and large teaching-facility experience strongly preferred
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required prior to start; BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Epic EMR experience within the past 2 years
- Ability to work 3x12-hour night shifts in a teaching hospital setting; reliable transportation is recommended due to limited public transit options
