Travel Registered Nurse Med Surg Job
Registered Nurse – Med Surg Stroke Stepdown is a travel assignment in Utica, NY, starting 04/20/2026 for 13 weeks in a hospital setting. Shifts are 12-hour days (6:30 a.m.–7:00 p.m.) with floating to other units as needed; block scheduling is not guaranteed. You will work on a Med/Surg Stroke Stepdown unit treating adults, with a guaranteed 36 hours per week and a pay range of $2,173 to $2,244 per week.

Responsibilities
- Provide direct, patient-centered nursing care for adult Med/Surg Stroke Stepdown patients, including monitoring neurological status and vital signs.
- Administer medications and IV therapies using appropriate pumps and equipment; manage NG tubes and feeding tubes as required.
- Perform initial and ongoing neuro assessments, applying NIHSS when required and escalating concerns per protocol.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care for conditions such as stroke, altered mental status, renal issues, COPD, CHF, pneumonia, and infection precautions.
- Ensure accurate charting in EPIC EMR, including assessment findings, interventions, responses, and discharge planning.
- Implement isolation precautions as indicated, monitor respiratory status, and respond promptly to changes in patient condition.
- Manage patient flow and assist with admissions, transfers, and discharges while maintaining safety and quality standards.
Requirements
- Active New York State RN license (NURSYS verification required) with full privilege to practice
- Current BLS certification (AHA); NIHSS certification required for this unit (can be obtained prior to start)
- 2+ years of Med/Surg experience with stroke stepdown experience; travel experience preferred
- EPIC EMR experience or demonstrated proficiency with similar EMR systems
- Driver’s license with address matching demographics
- Ability to work in a hospital setting with floating to other units as needed
- RTO (time off requests) must be included at time of submission
