Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to ED patients across the age spectrum (neonates through geriatrics), including triage, stabilization, and interim management.
- Monitor patients via telemetry, interpret dysrhythmias, and perform 12-lead ECGs; respond to changes in condition promptly.
- Administer medications and therapies using the facility’s Omnicell system; document care in EPIC.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (Respiratory, Radiology, Pharmacy, Phlebotomy, Social Services, RRT, Transportation, Unit Secretary) to coordinate patient care.
- Educate patients and families, prepare patients for discharge or transfer, and participate in throughput and bed management within the ED.
- Maintain safety, infection control, and infection prevention standards; be prepared to float within the hospital per manager discretion based on skillset.
Requirements
- Licensure: NY RN license in hand; active NY license required at time of submission
- Certifications: BLS, PALS, NIHSS required at submission
- Experience: Prefer 5 years of current ED experience
- Education: Registered Nurse (valid NY license)
- Practice readiness: EPIC charting experience; telemetry, dysrhythmia interpretation, and 12-lead ECG proficiency
- Medication systems: Omnicell experience
- Exams and credentials: Relias EKG exam within 72 hours of signing (facility expects strong performance); onsite proctored EKG/ECG exam with typical thresholds (85% overall, 100% identification of critical rhythms); retest/remediation may be offered per facility discretion
- Pre-start requirements: All Healthstream modules (except TB testing, Orientation Checklist, and "Care of the Stroke Patient" policy) must be completed by 7:00 AM on the Wednesday prior to start
- Vaccines: Flu vaccine required by 11/1; COVID-19 vaccine not required; exemptions for medical/religious reasons require prior submission and approval
- Local restriction: candidates with permanent address within 50 miles of the area are NOT accepted
