Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care for surgical patients in the OR/ASU, supporting perioperative teams throughout procedures.
- Maintain sterile technique, assist with patient positioning, and manage instrumentation and equipment needed for surgeries.
- Monitor patient status intraoperatively, assist with anesthesia-related tasks, and document care and medications administered within scope.
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and circulating staff; ensure safe patient flow and adherence to aseptic and safety standards.
- Recognize and respond to evolving safety issues, apply patient safety best practices, and assist with patient transport and post-anesthesia care as appropriate.
- Demonstrate leadership when needed, including potential charge nurse duties and mentoring of junior staff; communicate clearly with the broader care team.
Requirements
- Current New York State Registered Nurse license
- Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing
- BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
- OR/ASU nursing experience or strong competency in aseptic technique; ability to work effectively in a high-stress environment
- Lethal dysrhythmia interpretation skills
- On-call availability with a 30-minute response time
