Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care across float assignments in units such as ICU, ER, Med-Surg and related services, applying critical care skills as needed.
- Perform comprehensive assessments, monitor patient status, administer medications, manage IV therapies, and respond to emergencies per policy.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams; participate in rounds and care planning; document in the electronic medical record; ensure accurate handoffs.
- Maintain patient safety and confidentiality, adhere to infection control practices, and provide patient and family education as appropriate.
- Adapt to changing acuity and unit needs, maintain accountability, and support quality initiatives and safe patient care delivery.
Requirements
- Licensure: Current New York State Registered Nurse license
- Education: BSN required
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, and PALS (through AHA or RQI) required; NIHSS; CPI certification within 90 days; Basic Coronary Care within 6 months
- Experience: Minimum 1 year of Med-Surg/Telemetry or Critical Care experience
- Skills: Ability to float to ICU, ER, Med-Surg and related units; strong communication and teamwork; proficient in electronic medical records
- Scheduling: Willingness to work EOW/Holidays and two on-call shifts every four weeks
- Other: Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information professionally and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
