Travel Registered Nurse PCU Job
Registered Nurse, PCU (Cardiac Step-Down) – San Luis Obispo, California. Start date: 08/03/2026. This 13-week travel assignment offers 36 guaranteed hours per week on a night shift (7:00 PM–7:30 AM) in a Short Term Acute Care Hospital setting with a dedicated step-down unit focused on cardiac care. Weekly pay ranges from $2,014 to $2,023.

Responsibilities
- Plan and provide nursing care for patients in the cardiac step-down unit, including monitoring and interventions for stable and unstable conditions.
- Accurately interpret ECG rhythms and respond to life-threatening events in a timely, evidence-based manner.
- Administer medications, IV therapies (including blood products), and manage indwelling catheters and drains.
- Verify alarm settings with the Monitor Technician and optimize monitoring based on patient presentation.
- Manage post-procedure care for patients after coronary interventions, including femostop sheath removal, and care for patients after permanent pacemaker placement or post-implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (AICD) placement; care for patients with stable acute coronary syndrome.
- Communicate effectively within the care team and supervise/ delegate tasks to ancillary personnel within scope of practice per policy.
- Adhere to the unit’s chain of command and policy guidelines during both stable and emergent situations.
Requirements
- Licenses/Certifications: Current RN license in the state of practice; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved vendor; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from an approved vendor.
- Stroke/Nebraska: NIHSS certification required within 6 months of hire; NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) competency required.
- Education: Associate Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
- Experience: 6 months of cardiac step-down or telemetry experience in the last 2 years preferred.
- Other: Ability to work in a high-acuity step-down setting; may float to Medical-Surgical (MS) if needed.
