Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement, and document prescribed respiratory care for adult and geriatric patients, including aerosol and oxygen therapy.
- Provide care for ventilated patients, monitor and adjust ventilator settings per physician orders, and perform arterial blood gas sampling per policy.
- Deliver newborn respiratory care as part of deliveries, with no NICU on site; participate in deliveries as needed and support obstetric/newborn teams.
- Document care provided in the electronic medical record, maintain flow sheets, and manage charges for treatments.
- Assist in department training and supervision of new staff or students; educate nursing personnel on surveillance of patient and equipment after initial installation.
- Perform routine procedures, equipment checks, and contribute to quality and safety initiatives within the department.
Requirements
- Education: Graduate of an approved Respiratory Therapy Program.
- Licenses/Certifications: NBRC-RRT or NBRC-CRT credential; Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) required at hire or within 90 days; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required at hire or within 90 days; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required at hire or within 90 days. An AHA-NRP or ARC-NALS, AHA-ACLS or ARC-ALS, and AHA-PALS or ARC-PALS credential set is required as applicable.
- Experience: At least two years of recent experience in the respiratory care field; newborn experience is required; comfortable with adult and neonatal patients, including ventilated cases and ABGs.
- Ability to work in a hospital setting, including night shift and travel assignment requirements; ability to collaborate with multiple care teams.
