Role specifics and benefits:
- Core responsibilities include comprehensive PICC line assessment and maintenance, dressing changes using sterile technique, line patency verification, flushing per protocol, blood draws from PICC lines when appropriate, and documentation in electronic medical records with precision.
- Collaborate with physicians, wound/vascular teams, and infusion services to optimize catheter outcomes, reduce infection risk, and ensure timely IV therapies.
- Provide patient and family education on catheter care, home considerations, and recognizing complication signs to support safe transitions from hospital to home.
- Maintain compliance with infection prevention standards, anesthesia and procedural safety guidelines, and hospital policies; participate in quality improvement initiatives related to vascular access.
- Demonstrate professional growth within the PICC specialty—expand skills into ultrasound-guided line placement, advanced line care, and cross-department rotations to increase career mobility.
