About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher for the program in Chittenden County. In this role, you will map scope and sequence, prepare classroom materials, deliver differentiated instruction, and utilize effective behavioral and therapeutic interventions to support students in grades 7–12.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Instruction
Map, scope, sequence, and develop curriculum aligned with Vermont standards.
Prepare classroom materials and deliver instruction tailored to student needs.
Differentiate instruction and implement accommodations and modifications outlined in IEPs.
Classroom Management & Student Support
Build strong, therapeutic relationships with students exhibiting social, emotional, and behavioral challenges.
Apply effective behavioral and therapeutic interventions and social programming.
Implement individual student plans, safety plans, and program-wide policies.
Collaboration & Assessment
Work within an interdisciplinary team alongside specialists, public school personnel, caregivers, and clinical staff.
Participate in IEP, 504 Plan, and Comprehensive Evaluation meetings.
Assess and maintain student records, track academic and behavioral progress, and share recommendations with the team.
Support non-academic activities, electives, field trips, and community-based outings.
Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
Education: Bachelor’s Degree (Required).
Licensure: Level 1 – Professional Educator's License (Required).
Core Experience:
Background working with youth with significant social, emotional, and behavioral challenges.
Experience teaching grades 7–12 with academic skills below grade level.
Experience in curriculum development.
Clearances & Compliance: Fingerprint background check required. Must meet all Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) guidelines and adhere to HIPAA/42 CFR Part 2 privacy standards.
Transportation: Valid driver’s license and driving required.
Preferred Qualifications
Middle or high school teaching experience.
Background in alternative school settings.
Proven skills in differentiating instruction and developing customized accommodations.

Communication: Clear, accurate reporting and adaptive crisis communication.
Empathy & Service: Strong commitment to supporting youth with compassion, confidentiality, and cultural awareness.
Organization: Proactive initiative with strong detail management and policy compliance.
