Respiratory Therapist – Registered Respiratory Therapist (Travel) in San Luis Obispo, California. Start date August 3, 2026. 13-week assignment with guaranteed 36 hours per week. Shift: 3x12-hour nights (7:00 PM–7:30 AM) in a short-term acute care setting. Responsibilities
- Assess and document the appropriateness of prescribed respiratory therapies and provide adult and geriatric care per physician orders and department policy
- Administer aerosolized and oxygen therapy, monitor patient response, and maintain EMR documentation and charge records for each patient
- Manage care for ventilated patients, including monitoring and adjustments as needed
- Draw arterial blood gases per policy and physician orders; participate in department record-keeping and training of new staff
- Provide patient and family education on cardio-respiratory disease, rehabilitation, and disease progression; assist in rounds and ensure equipment is functioning properly
- Support in neonatal-related responsibilities as needed, including potential neonatal transports and NICU-related procedures when required
Requirements
- Education: Graduate of an approved Respiratory Therapy Program
- Licenses/ Certifications: Registered Respiratory Therapist (NBRC-RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (NBRC-CRT); Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) required at hire or within 90 days; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required at hire or within 90 days; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required at hire or within 90 days
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of critical care experience, with 2–3 years in NICU and neonatal intubation experience; at least 2 years of recent field experience
- Other: Current nursing license per the state of assignment; ability to work in a fast-paced acute care environment
