Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care for adult patients in a medical step-down unit, including ongoing assessment, monitoring of vital signs, and timely response to clinical changes.
- Administer prescribed medications and therapies, manage IVs, and coordinate treatments with the multidisciplinary team.
- Monitor for early signs of patient deterioration (e.g., sepsis, respiratory compromise, electrolyte disturbances) and escalate to the care team as needed.
- Collaborate with physicians, case managers, and ancillary staff to develop and implement comprehensive care plans.
- Document care activities accurately in the electronic health record; maintain infection control and patient safety standards.
- Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatments, discharge planning, and follow-up needs; support care transitions.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience in a medical step-down or similar high-acuity unit.
- ACLS and BLS certifications.
- Ability to work the night shift with 12-hour shifts and manage a 1:4 patient ratio.
- Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills.
- Adaptability to a fast-paced inpatient environment.
