Travel Registered Nurse – Operating Room (Circulator) assignment in Milan, New Mexico. This 13-week travel role supports surgical teams in a hospital setting serving a rural community, starting May 25, 2026. Guaranteed 40 hours per week with a 1st shift. Responsibilities
- Provide professional nursing care for patients undergoing surgical procedures as the OR Circulator, advocating for the patient throughout the perioperative period
- Verify patient identity, surgical site, consent, and history; participate in time-out procedures and ensure anesthesia patient safety
- Prepare the OR with necessary equipment, supplies, and instruments; maintain aseptic technique and anticipate the needs of the surgical team
- Manage non-sterile aspects of the procedure, including opening sterile supplies, handling specimens, documenting intraoperative events, and coordinating with anesthesia, surgeons, and scrub personnel
- Monitor patient status, vital signs, and physiological responses; collaborate with anesthesia to maintain stability and provide comfort measures
- Document nursing care, medications, implants, supplies, and patient responses in the electronic health record per policy and regulatory standards
- Assist with postoperative transfer to PACU or other units, providing hand-off reports to ensure continuity of care
- Respond to emergencies, participate in on-call rotations, and contribute to quality and safety initiatives
Requirements
- Education: Graduate of an accredited ADN or BSN program; BSN preferred
- Licensure: Current, unrestricted RN license in NM; a compact nursing license may be substituted for NM licensure
- Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required or obtained within 6 months of start
- Additional certifications: Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred or required based on services; CNOR preferred
- Experience: Minimum 1–2 years of OR Circulator experience strongly preferred; experience in rural or small facilities a plus; knowledge of general surgery, orthopedics, OB/GYN, endoscopy, and minor trauma is valued
- Skills: Strong knowledge of perioperative nursing, aseptic technique, documentation, and electronic medical records; able to work independently in a resource-limited setting; excellent communication and teamwork
