Responsibilities
- Assist during surgical procedures by maintaining a sterile field and providing instrumentation as needed to support the surgical team.
- Prepare, inspect, and sterilize instruments; verify packaging integrity, moisture control, and expiration dates to ensure patient safety.
- Monitor the sterile field for contamination or compromise and initiate corrective action under supervision as needed.
- Develop competency in Tier 1 surgical cases and maintain ongoing professional development of instrumentation and procedures.
- Support unit activities including patient transports, room turnovers, and room preparation; participate in Time Out processes with briefings and debriefings.
- Model professional behavior, communicate effectively with the perioperative team, and uphold a Just Culture framework.
Requirements
- License: Licensed Surgical Technologist in Colorado.
- Education: Completion of a Certified Surgical Technologist program and/or licensed Surgical Technologist.
- Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the American Heart Association.
- Experience: Completion of CST program and/or licensure as Surgical Technologist.
- Language/Technical: Proficiency in English; ability to use computer systems for online learning and policy access.
- Physical/Compliance: Ability to work in a perioperative setting, HIPAA compliant, and able to meet physical demands of the OR (standing most of shift; lifting up to 10 lbs frequently; occasional lifts up to 20–35 lbs as needed).
