Responsibilities
- Deliver direct, patient-centered care for adult medical-surgical patients, including post-surgical recovery and common MS diagnoses (e.g., abdominal pain, cholelithiasis, osteoarthritis, fractures, back pain, morbid obesity post-bariatric procedures).
- Monitor and interpret vital signs, assess patient status, administer medications and therapies per orders, and escalate changes in condition promptly.
- Utilize EPIC for documentation, care plans, and care coordination; maintain accurate, timely charting and discharge planning support.
- Manage common unit equipment (IV pumps, N/G tubes, feeding tubes) and collaborate with physicians, case managers, and other health professionals to ensure safe, effective care.
- Float to related med-surg areas as requested; uphold patient safety, infection control, and quality standards throughout the shift.
- Provide patient and family education, answer questions, and support rehabilitation and recovery goals.
Requirements
- Active NY RN license (NURSYS verification) with current New York state registration
- Current American Heart Association BLS certification
- 2+ years of Med Surg nursing experience; travel experience required
- EMR experience with EPIC preferred
- Ability to work a night shift and float to other med-surg areas as needed
