Responsibilities
- Provide direct, evidence-based nursing care for neuro and ICU patients on a mixed-acuity unit, including floor-level and high-acuity step-down patients.
- Conduct frequent neuro assessments (Q1 checks), monitor hemodynamics, and manage neuro devices such as external ventricular drains and lumbar drains; recognize and respond to changes in neurological status.
- Manage arterial lines, tubes/drains, and other critical care devices; administer and titrate medications (including vasopressors and sedatives per protocol) and monitor responses.
- Telemetry and cardiac monitoring; recognize and respond to arrhythmias, seizures, and other neurologic emergencies; initiate appropriate interventions and escalate as needed.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (neurosurgery, neurology, anesthesia, respiratory therapy, and case management) to develop and implement individualized care plans; participate in rounds and care conferences.
- Document thoroughly in the electronic medical record; participate in discharge planning, family education, and transition of care while maintaining patient safety and quality standards.

Requirements
- RN license active in New York (NY RN license only)
- BLS certification (American Heart Association)
- NIHSS certification/competency required
- Telemetry experience required
- Two years of step-down/PCU experience
- ACLS certification preferred
- Neuro/Stroke high-acuity experience required
- Ability to work in a hospital setting and meet the demands of a travel assignment
