Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care for Med Surg and Telemetry patients, following the health system’s mission, values, policies, and procedures
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care using age-specific criteria; document and communicate changes promptly
- Monitor telemetry, interpret heart rhythms, and respond to arrhythmias as needed; administer and titrate cardiac medications per protocol
- Collaborate with LPN/PCT and Unit Secretaries; participate in planning, directing, and teaching non-RN staff
- Recognize changes in patient status, initiate appropriate interventions, and involve the primary team as required
- Float to all units as assigned within the health system while maintaining patient safety and care quality
- Demonstrate strong communication skills with patients, families, and the care team; document accurately and timely
Requirements
- Active RN license in Ohio or a compact state (Nursys verification required)
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience in Med Surg and Telemetry (required)
- American Heart Association BLS and ACLS certifications (required)
- NIHSS certification (required), with active status; documentation needed
- Competence with cardiac medications (e.g., Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitroglycerin, Heparin, Dobutamine, Lasix, Bumex) and knowledge of titration and monitoring
- Telemetry proficiency and ability to monitor heart rhythms; strong critical thinking and decision-making skills
- Ability to work night shifts and participate in a 13-week travel assignment
- Knowledge of signs/symptoms of stroke and ability to intervene promptly
- Must be able to function effectively in a hospital setting and follow established protocols
