Responsibilities
- Process, embed, cut, and stain surgical and autopsy tissue according to established policies to support Pathologist examination
- Prepare and stain cytopathology specimens for Pathologist interpretation
- Manage tissue from receipt through processing and embedding; prepare microscopic sections for diagnosis
- Maintain supplies and equipment; participate in the department’s Quality Assurance program
- Perform specialized histology techniques as required for diagnostic purposes
Requirements
- New York State license required for Histotechnologist (Histotechnician AAS credential)
- Education: Bachelor of Science in medical technology, biology, and chemistry or HTL certification from a recognized agency
- Minimum 2 years histology experience
- Ability to work 8-hour day shifts with early start times in a hospital setting (start around 5:30 a.m. or 6:00 a.m.)
