Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to patients in the step-down/telemetry unit, handling stable and evolving conditions.
- Accurately interpret ECG rhythms; respond to life-threatening emergencies; manage care during critical events.
- Administer medications, IV therapies, including blood products; maintain sterile technique and infection control.
- Care for and maintain indwelling catheters and drains; operate and troubleshoot standard critical care equipment.
- Verify alarm settings in collaboration with Monitor Technicians; apply lead functions and determine optimal monitoring for patient presentation.
- Support patients post coronary interventions (femoral sheath removal with use of Femostop), post permanent pacemaker placement, post AICD placement, and patients with stable acute coronary syndrome.
- Supervise and delegate tasks to ancillary staff within scope of practice; collaborate with the care team to ensure safe, comprehensive patient care.
Requirements
- Active RN license in the state of practice (California) — Required
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ASN/ADN) or equivalent; Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification — Required
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification — Required
- NIHSS certification — Required within 6 months of hire
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) knowledge/assessment capability — Required
- Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience in the field (telemetry/acute care) — Required
- 6 months of cardiac step-down or telemetry experience within the last 2 years — Preferred
- Ability to interpret ECG rhythms and work effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity unit
