Registered Nurse – Observation Unit in Rochester, NY. Responsibilities
- Deliver direct nursing care to adult patients in the Observation Unit, including initial assessment, continuous monitoring, and timely escalation of changes in condition to the medical team.
- Administer prescribed medications and therapies, monitor response, and document all assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the electronic health record with accuracy and thoroughness.
- Maintain telemetry monitoring as applicable, interpret vital signs, and respond to rhythm changes or alarms in collaboration with the care team.
- Collaborate with 24/7 provider coverage and multidisciplinary colleagues to determine disposition decisions (admission vs discharge) and coordinate efficient patient throughput.
- Support discharge planning and patient education tailored to short-stay observation needs, ensuring safe transition home and clear follow-up instructions.
- Adhere to safety, infection control, and QA standards while managing a fast-paced unit with a high daily patient census.
Requirements
- NYRN license active and in good standing
- BLS (American Heart Association)
- ACLS (American Heart Association)
- NIHSS certification
- Telemetry monitoring competency and/or experience
- Minimum of two years of Med/Surg nursing experience
