Responsibilities
- Provide direct bedside nursing care to postoperative and intermediate-care patients on the step-down unit, including cardiothoracic, vascular, neurosurgery, trauma, and transplant cases
- Monitor telemetry and vital signs; read and interpret rhythm strips; respond promptly to rhythm changes and alarms
- Administer medications and therapies per orders, utilizing automated medication dispensing systems and ensuring accurate documentation
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia, PACU, ICU/step-down teammates, case management, and ancillary staff to develop and adjust patient care plans; participate in timely handoffs
- Support patient safety and comfort within unit ratios (approximately 1:3 to 1:4/1:4-5 for Med/Surg patients) and assist with patient transfers from PACU/SICU as needed
- Document thoroughly in the medical record; participate in rounds and provide patient and family education

Requirements
- 2+ years of recent acute care experience
- Must have surgical step-down experience at a Level 1 trauma center; IMCU/Stepdown experience required
- Ability to independently read and interpret telemetry rhythm strips
- ACLS certification
- Experience with automated medication dispensing systems
- More than 1 prior travel assignment (2+ preferred)
