Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in a medical step-down unit for acutely ill adult patients, including monitoring vitals, labs, and response to clinical changes.
- Administer prescribed medications, manage IV therapies, and support procedures as directed by the care plan.
- Monitor for and respond to conditions such as sepsis, heart failure, hypertensive emergencies, respiratory failure, COPD, and chronic kidney disease; collaborate with the team to adjust care as needed.
- Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and case management to coordinate patient transitions and discharge planning; communicate with patients and families about care plans.
- Document accurately in the electronic medical record; ensure patient safety, infection control, and adherence to clinical protocols, including ACLS/BLS guidelines when applicable.
- Maintain appropriate patient-to-nurse ratios (1:4) and participate in on-unit calls, emergencies, and quality-improvement activities as required.
Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse license (Georgia) or eligibility to obtain licensure.
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience in a medical step-down/PCU or similar high-acuity setting.
- ACLS and BLS certifications.
- Ability to work nights and manage care for a 1:4 patient ratio on a 12-hour shift.
- Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills; comfort with rapid changes in patient status.
- Proficiency with electronic health records and standard hospital equipment.
