Responsibilities
- Conduct intake assessments through interviews with patients and relatives to gather case history
- Plan and provide nursing care for behavioral health patients, including initial and ongoing assessments
- Make nursing diagnoses of medical and emotional status and recommend treatment options
- Consult with psychiatrists and other behavioral health staff to design appropriate treatment plans
- Administer psychotropic medications and monitor patient reactions; document responses
- Maintain a safe, secure environment for staff and patients; monitor for safety concerns
- Document all patient information in medical records and follow physician orders; ensure confidentiality
- Perform administrative tasks such as filing, answering phones, and completing progress notes in the electronic system
Requirements
- Active NY RN license
- BLS Certification (American Heart Association)
- Telemetry competency
- Minimum 2 years of behavioral health/psychiatric nursing experience
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts in a hospital setting
- Schedule may include blocked weekends, holidays, on-call and callback; ability to meet unit needs
Education
- Graduation from an approved nursing program; current RN licensure in New York
