As a Med Surg RN on assignment, you’ll own a spectrum of responsibilities designed to sharpen your clinical judgment and accelerate growth. Core duties include accurate patient assessment, continuous monitoring of vital signs and responses to treatment, timely administration and reconciliation of medications, IV therapy and basic line care, wound management and drainage care, and comprehensive post-operative monitoring and discharge planning. You’ll coordinate with physicians, pharmacists, case managers, and physical therapists to develop individualized care plans, educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatment options, and self-care after discharge, and document thoroughly in electronic health records to ensure seamless continuity. The role also emphasizes safety, infection control, pain management, fall prevention, and rapid problem-solving during clinical deterioration.
