Responsibilities
- Conduct intake assessments through interviews with patients and relatives to gather case history
- Plan and provide nursing care for patients
- Make nursing diagnoses of the medical and emotional status of patients and recommend treatment options
- Consult with psychiatrists and other behavioral health staff in designing appropriate treatment plans
- Administer and document reactions to psychotropic drugs and other medications
- Arrange further medical attention when necessary
- Assist the client in understanding the nature of emotional disturbances and the need for treatment
- Maintain a safe and secure environment for staff and patients
- Monitor vital signs, assess pain, and ensure effective pain management
- Document patient information on medical charts and follow physician orders; maintain patient confidentiality
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of treatments, immunizations, and laboratory results
- Perform administrative tasks such as filing, answering phones, typing, and completing progress notes in the computer system
- Provide courteous, high-quality service to patients and families by responding to requests or making appropriate referrals
Requirements
- Active NY RN license
- BLS Certification (American Heart Association)
- Telemetry experience preferred
- Minimum 2 years RN experience
- Ability to work in an inpatient behavioral health setting for adolescents
