Responsibilities
- Prepare for cardiovascular surgical procedures by establishing and maintaining a sterile field, retracting and passing instruments, supplies, and medications to the surgical team.
- Scrub open heart and cardiovascular cases as required, solo or with a second scrub, and assist with instrument setup and aseptic technique; perform instrument, sponge, needle, and blade counts with the RN.
- Maintain equipment and supply inventories, assemble appropriate instrumentation, and ensure orderly sterile fields for expedient case progression.
- Collaborate with surgeons, nursing staff, and anesthesia to support successful case flow; assist with data collection and documentation per unit standards.
- Transport patients and support unit operations; perform routine clerical duties and light housekeeping as needed.
- Leverage EPIC or similar electronic health record systems for charting and case data when applicable; participate in ongoing team training and open-heart case support as requested.
Requirements
- Licenses/ Certifications: CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) or TS-C (Tech in Surgery) — required
- Certifications: BLS/CPR from an approved provider — required
- Experience: At least two years of recent field experience; scrub tech experience and open-heart case exposure strongly preferred; ability to scrub CV cases solo or with a second scrub
- Education: High School diploma or GED required; Associate’s/Technical degree or equivalent preferred
- Additional: EPIC experience preferred; able to work in a fast-paced cardiovascular OR and able to take call (approximately 50% of the time)
